Disney Princess Half Marathon Race Report!

5 Mar

Saturday night after the TNT Inspiration Dinner, Aaron and I headed back to the hotel and got everything laid out for race morning. If you’ve ever run a Disney race before you know you have to board a bus in the middle of the night so best to be ready before bed. I’m not a morning person so this especially applies to me.

With everything laid out and ready to go, it was time to hit the hay. I think I finally fell asleep around 10 pm and the alarm started going off at 2 am! I took a quick shower and got ready to go. We left at about 2:40 am, picked up my friend, Lora, and then headed to the Boardwalk to meet the team for pictures. We got there right around 3 am and greeted everyone as they came down to the lobby. Of course plenty of pictures were taken!
HonorBib I had made in memory of my Aunt

Lora and I, we met doing Princess with VTNT last year :)

Kermit and I ready to race

The whole US VTNT team
After group photos in the Boardwalk lobby, we promptly boarded the buses at 3:30 am to head to the race start. The bus was very quiet compared to last year when we were blasting music and dancing. Ahhh the memories LOL
Boarding the bus. (Coach Joe takes lots of pictures!)
Before you knew it, we were at the start area. It was packed already with tons of princesses in costumes, a DJ blasting music, and more. We stood around for a little bit to see if we could find anybody we knew and then decided to head through bag check. I didn’t want to wait until the last minute to go through bag check because we did that last year and waited in line for FOREVER. After making it through bag check, we headed over to the porta potties and found the shortest line. Once we were done, they were finally letting the masses head to the corrals. It is a long, dark half mile walk before you hit the corrals. Once we made it to the corral we found a spot and sat. At this point, it was another 1.5 to 2 hours before our corral’s wave start. Aaron and I sat around for a while relaxing and eating our breakfast. I was pretty quiet at this point because my nerves were really getting the best of me. I hadn’t said anything to anyone but for a few days before hand my hips had really been bothering me and I was worried that it would keep me from finishing. (Obviously that wasn’t the case) When it was starting to closer to starting time I started stretching and while laying on the ground, Megan walked up!
Megan and I
Megan and her friends hung with Aaron and I until the race start. Before you knew it, the fairy godmother was wishing us well and the fireworks were going off for our corral! Aaron and I made sure to not go out too fast (I’ve done that many times and its always my downfall) and I kept an eye on my watch to make sure we were on pace. During the first few miles, my hips weren’t happy at all. Especially sometime during mile 2 or 3 when you are on an off ramp and it is slanted. UGH But I kept going and tried not to think about it too much. We passed several characters and potty stops. The lines were ridiculously long and I didn’t want to stop and lose time.
Once we made it to mile 4 and into the TTC, I was ecstatic! We were officially past the point were I had gotten pulled last year. There was no stopping us now! Once we were past the TTC, we spotted Coach Joe. He asked me how I was feeling and if I was doing ok, I told him I was doing good! He snapped our picture and since I wasn’t paying attention, I slammed into a lady in front of me. Oops! Sorry! She wasn’t too happy with me but we pressed on!
Next up, we headed towards the Magic Kingdom! Along the way, we passed another DJ blasting techno, men on a trampoline, and the Contemporary Resort. I couldn’t wait to finally be on Main Street USA. Not only does this part of the race really give you a boost but I really had to pee and I was determined to wait to use a real bathroom with no lines! LOL We entered Magic Kingdom from backstage and headed down on Main street. From there we headed to Tomorrowland and straight to the bathrooms. There was no line and I was grateful for a clean bathroom! Aaron on the other hand had some troubles. Seeing that this is a women’s race, women were using both bathrooms. He headed into the men’s bathroom and women told him to go ahead they’d close their eyes but one woman was very insistent that he not use the bathroom. Instead of arguing with her, he just left and ended up holding it until the finish line! haha I guess that is a downside of a man running a women’s race. From our potty stop we headed to Fantasyland and through the castle! This part of the race has probably the best race support, tons of characters, volunteers, and spectators! After that it was through Frontierland and backstage to exit the park. At this point we were between miles 6 and 7 so I ate my clif shot bloks. My feet and hips were hurting me but it wasn’t too bad and we were well on pace.
Mile 9.5
Around mile 9.5, I sent out my only tweet of the picture above. I was still feeling alright but that was about to change because right after the mile 10 marker was an on ramp that we had to climb and again it was on a slant instead of flat. My right hip didn’t like it AT ALL and I was on the verge of tears the whole time. At this point, Aaron took my spibelt for me to take the extra pressure off my hips. At this point, we also slowed down quite a bit because the pain in my feet and hips was worsening. But even by slowing down I knew we would still finish and not have to worry about being pulled from the course, we were well ahead of pace. Right after the mile 12 marker we entered Epcot and I couldn’t be happier to be almost finished. As we were leaving Epcot, we could see and hear the Gospel choir so cool! We also saw my tnt staff person, Bonni. And then finally the finish line!

WE FINISHED!!! :) We immediately got in line to collect our medals, sent a few texts/tweets, and a few phone calls to share our great news!

Yet again this was a completely AWESOME race and it was made even better by running it with Aaron! This was his first half marathon and couldn’t be prouder of him. He is already planning on doing more races with me this year and I’m so excited!
If you’ve made it this far into the post thanks for sticking with it. I’d also like to say thank you for all of your support and encouragement, I don’t know where I’d be without it! :)

Tangent Tuesday

23 Feb

1. I’m currently trying to get a paper written that is due tomorrow for my Bible as Literature class. Clearly, I’m procrastinating a bit at the moment. If you follow me on twitter, you may have heard me complain about this class. It is a complete pain in my @**. I took this class because I thought it would be interesting and better than just a regular gen ed. Well so far not so much. We have yet to do anything related to the bible as literature. I’m extremely frustrated but stuck. I can’t drop the course but can withdraw and be stuck still paying for it so I’ll be sticking it out for the duration.

2. Speaking of class, I’ve been working on a lot of homework these past few days to try and make sure I don’t have to do anything while I’m in Disney. The last thing I want to do is homework on vacation. All I have left is a rough draft of a paper to complete for my English class but I think I’ll be able to get it done sometime tomorrow. Hopefully.

3. If you are going to be in WDW this weekend for the Disney Princess Half Marathon and haven’t RSVP’d for my blogger/twitter meet up go HERE for details and to RSVP. I can’t wait to meet all of you! :)

4. 48 hours and counting. I couldn’t be anymore excited!!

    The countdown continues………

    22 Feb
    72 hours and counting.

Three Things Thursday: Shameless self promotion addition!

    13 Jan

    1. If you didn’t see it already. My blog is one of the 2010 Top Ten Best Endurance Sports Blogs over at Everymantri.com. Now voting has commenced for the top 3 and I’m losing miserably. So I’m asking all of you lovely readers to head HERE and vote for me if you haven’t already. And feel free to share the link with everyone and anyone you know and tell to vote for me! ;)

    2. I’m currently having a CEP Compression Socks giveaway. You only have until tomorrow night to enter so hurry HERE and get your entries in. They really are some awesome socks. Two bonus entries to anyone that heads over to my TNT fundraising page and donates. I’m trying to raise $500 before I head down to Disney for the Princess Half. I appreciate any and all donations; every little bit helps!

    3. Speaking of the Princess Half, as you may have seen two weeks ago, I’m having a blogger/twitter meet up while I’m down there. You can head HERE for all the details. I’m getting super excited for this race and I hope I’ll be able to meet a bunch of you while I’m there. If you can’t make the meet up, hopefully we’ll be able to meet race morning for a quick chat and picture. I’m even more excited for this race because now Aaron is officially registered. No backing out now! ;)

    Three Things Thursday

    7 Jan

    1. Good luck to all of you amazing runners out there racing at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. I know so many going and running. Some are doing the half, some are doing the full, and some are completely Goofy ;) and doing both! I’ve signed up to track several of them and can’t wait to see how everyone does. I’m extremely jealous that I can’t be there to run too!! But I will be there in like 7 weeks for the Princess Half so I think I’ll survive.

    2. I’ve been extremely lucky this week and won not one but TWO giveaways. The first is a Foot & Lower Leg kit from TriggerPoint Therapy. The second is a SPIbelt, in purple of course! :) Its so fun to win blog giveaways and try different/new running products that I might not otherwise have been able to try. I’ll definitely let you know what I think of both. And speaking of giveaways, I’m going to have one starting tomorrow in celebration of making it to over 200 followers and over 200 blog posts!

    3. Tomorrow I’ll be spending the day with my family helping my little sister move down to Illinois State University. She did her first 3 semesters of college at a local community college but is now transferring there to finish her bachelor’s in Special Education. I wonder what she’ll think of dorm life?

    Three Things Thursday

    31 Dec

    1. If you missed the announcement yesterday, go HERE to find out about the meet I’m hosting during the Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend. :) You don’t have to tell me yes or no right away but do try to keep it in mind while planning your trip. Also, I know that the time and day I picked won’t work for everyone but it was honestly the best time that worked for me. Since I’m doing the race with TNT and I’m the mentor for our team, I have a lot going on before the race and I can’t skip anything. So for those of you that can’t make it, we’ll try to figure out another time to meet up. Perhaps in the morning before the race? Disney is notorious for making you get to the start line hours before the race so we’ll have plenty of time ;)

    2. Tomorrow in the Chicagoland area, it is suppose to get to 50 degrees. Holy cow! That is incredible for December. Since my marathon training started this week, I’m going to make sure to take advantage of the nice weather and head outside for my run. It is suppose to drop back down overnight Friday so Saturday’s run will probably be back inside on the treadmill.

    3. I can’t believe its already NYE. Where has this year gone? It has been a pretty incredible year and I might even have a recap sometime this weekend. I’ve really enjoyed reading all of yours so why not have my own?! Aaron, Becca, and I will be spending NYE by going over to a friend’s house for a little get together. It should be a lot of fun and I’m just really excited that Aaron is off of work on New Year’s day so as a result I get to spend NYE with him!! :) What are your New Year’s plans?

Disney Princess Half Marathon Blogger/Twitter Meet Up

    30 Dec

Come join me and other bloggers/tweeters for a meet and greet in Disney before we all run the Disney Princess Half. I’ll be hosting this event in my villa at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. The meet up will be on Friday, February 25th from 6 to 8 pm. I’ll have food and drink for everyone to share, I just ask that everyone chip in $5 to cover the cost of everything. If there is any money left over, it will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since I’m running this race with Team in Training. I’ll also have a few door prizes to giveaway just for the fun of it!! :)

I know the race is still a while away but I’m a planner and I know many of you might be as well so I thought it might be good to announce the meet now. I’m having the meet at my villa because I figured it would be easier and cheaper for everyone! To RSVP, just leave a comment on this post letting me know you’ll be there. You’ll also need to send me an email at wannaberunnergirl@gmail.com with your cell phone number and/or e-mail address so I can let you know what my room number is once I have it after check-in. I’ll be sending everyone a mass text message/e-mail with my room number and how to get to the resort after I check in on Friday morning.

Mark your calendars! I hope to see you there. :) Oh and don’t worry, I’ll remind you again about the meet closer to race time.

    Disney Trip Report

    11 Dec

As you all know, I was in Walt Disney World over the weekend. I had a wonderful time, of course! :) Aaron and I went for 4 days to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary. We got a good deal on airfare and we have annual passes so the trip was pretty cheap. We managed to make it to all four parks and take in much of the Christmas festivities including the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. We also ate, A LOT. You get a lot of food with the dining plan. We got to eat a few new places (for us) like the Yachtsman and Via Napoli. Plus we also ate at some favorites: Garden Grill & Whispering Canyon. It was a great trip and we were both sad to come home. But to cure our post Disney trip depression, we are already plan our next trip back. Which is in February for the Disney Princess Half Marathon!

Aaron kicked my butt on Toy Story Midway Mania

Ready to watch Muppet Vision 3D

Last ones on Rock n Roller Coaster for the night
    so we got front row!

We even got buttons to wear

It was really chilly Monday night in Magic Kingdom

    Character dinner at Garden Grill

    Candlelight Processional was AMAZING

All dressed up for dinner at The Yachtsman

Aaron insisted on going on this and then proceeded to fall asleep

    Goofin’ around in Norway

    I’m in Walt Disney World!!

    4 Dec

If your reading this, that means I’m in Disney! I love being able to write posts ahead of time! :)  Since I just got here (and I’m actually writing this on Thursday), I’m going to share a few pictures with you from Disney trips of the past to tide you over until I get back home with new pictures.
